Both of them also shared a deep interest in bicycles and believed they could create a new type of mechanical bicycle that would be easier to use.

Soon these two friends then began experimenting with gasoline-powered engines and trying on their own bikes. In 1903 William Harley and Arthur Davidson and two brothers from Arthur Davidson formed the Harley Davidson Motor Company Company, a motorcycle manufacturer company that would become big in the world. Determined to make a better life for himself, Harley then left for college, he was the first person in his family to study and finally earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1907. After completing his studies, Harley then returned to Milwaukee after college and began working again with Davidson to fulfill their dream of building a motorized bicycle.

They started operating the Harley Davidson Motor Company from a small warehouse in the Davidson family's backyard. In the first year, the company produced three bicycles, which included a crank and pedal bike and a one-cylinder motorbike. Over the next few years, the company
perfecting motorcycle ideas and attracting new businesses. In 1909, the company had its own factory, employed 35 workers and produced more than a thousand motorbikes per year.
Behind the company's development, William Harley was a perfectionist who created and installed the world's first two-cylinder motorcycle engine. He did it in 1907, and only a few years later, it was later patented to be a V-Twin engine which then skyrocketed and helped grow the company's production to 3,200 bikes a year. Over the next few decades Harley-Davidson continued to see a huge boost in sales and popularity. when the US participated in World War I. Unmitigated, the US Military was brave enough to include it with a third of the total 70,000 motorcycle units needed during the war. That choice is right, because Harley-Davidson motorbikes can make it easier for US troops to carry out surveillance and logistics deliveries to the front lines of the battlefield.

Finally, throughout World War I, around 20,000 Harley-Davidson motorbikes were sent to the battlefield. Although there are still 14,600 more units that have not been produced due to the end of the war, Harley-Davidson has changed like a star. The motorcycle received tremendous appreciation from the US community, because it was considered to be enough to help the country "Uncle Sam" on the battlefield. The image of "Motor Nationalists" was also pinned by the community to the motorcycle.

A number of mass media are busy discussing the "greatness" of Harley Davidson vehicles. "Uncle Sam’s Choice; slogan; Harley-Davidson "was emblazoned in one of the company's advertisements in the 1920s. At that time, Harley-Davidson finally began its golden age. Harley-Davidson later became a legend and was able to outperform its competitors to become the largest motorcycle company in the world to the present.

Until his death, William Harley proved to play a role in the company's success and the introduction of new motorbikes. He is a driver and has a passion for testing his new bike. Harley died of heart failure on September 18, 1943. He was buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum in Milwaukee.
