dynamo starter
Maybe some of my friend ever or often experienced problems when switching engines use electric starter motors. The electric starter button must be pressed repeatedly, then the engine can live. Or, even can not live and eventually had to use the kick starter.
Despite replacing the batteries in the motor aka battery with a new battery, but it still can not make a living through the electric starter motors. If conditions are such that, should the motor or dynamo starter should be suspected. Starter motor is turned on by a battery. If the battery is good, starter motor will normally live smoothly. But, sometimes due to age and lack of maintenance, the condition of the existing brush or brush in the starter motor can wear out.
Brush is designed to wear out and eventually would be reduced. That's because the brush rubbing against the commutator when the motor starter life. Thus, the brush will wear out faster than the other components of the starter motor.
wire brush
To fix this, should disassemble the motor or dynamo starter. The first way, first off the electrical sockets. Furthermore, close off the left side of the crankcase. Once separated, the locking ring will appear. Well, well off the locking ring. Once everything is removed, the next off the starter motor mounting bolts in the engine. After released from the holder, just open the starter motor cover by removing the bolts the lock.
With conditions regardless, then can see the wear and tear on the starter dynamo brush. Create Honda racing, if according to the service manual for Honda, wear and tear is allowed no more than 4 mm.

It feels, for racing other brands are also not much different. Well, if the wear has exceeded the minimum allowable limit, it should be replaced with a new brush.
Before assembling it back, also need to do the cleaning and checking of the commutator. Do not let this part is full of dust and dirt. Or, from damage caused by short-circuit. That need to be considered when cleaning the commutator. Never clean the dusty surface of the commutator with sandpaper. Because it would ruin the surface treatment.
